Video Transcript: Cost of Video Production

Hi, I’m Rand Courtney from Creative Deviants.

So you need a video made. Maybe it’s a for a product about to launch, a marketing video or a kickstarter video or any video, really. If you’re planning on hiring someone to make it, either an agency or production company, your first and biggest question is probably how much does video production cost? The answer is, it depends. The reality is there are so many factors that go into quoting for a video project.

With that said, here are the five things that can impact how much you’ll have to pay: “How Much Do Videos Cost”

Firstly, is timetable.

How long a project will take is a huge factor when companies give you a quote. Something that needs to be A.S.A.P. is gonna cost a lot more than one with plenty of time. So plan accordingly.

Secondly, is concept and writing.

Do you need a script written? Do you have an idea? The more refined your idea and script, the less you’ll have to spend hiring an agency or production company to do it for you.

Third, is scale.

Part of this is how long you want the end product to be. But also how complicated the shoot is. Is it a host talking for 30 seconds in a studio? Or do you need your helicopter filmed in the sky? Most people working on a production set are paid by the day. Rarely are crews salaried employees so the more days and the more people means more money.

Fourth, is editing. Do you need it edited? Do you need graphics or titles? More footage equals more decisions which equals more time.

And fifth is who.

Who you hire. Bigger companies often charge more than smaller ones. That’s not to say you’ll get better quality. Finding a company, or agency, that’s a good fit can really impact your budget. We always suggest getting multiple quotes on a project. We have a saying that we tell potential clients when they ask how we quote. And that is, “Fast, cheap, or good … pick two”. Which is simply saying that when viewing the triangle of quality video production, it’s impossible to have all three. So, you as a client will have some important decisions to make. Those decisions will ultimately impact the budget and overall success of your project.

I hope this helps as you begin this journey. If you have any questions or are looking for more info, drop me a line or feel free to ask in the comments section below. I’m Rand Courtney. Thanks for watching.
